In our ever increasing virtual world, it can be easy to lose sight of reality and what the important things in life really are.
At Navigate our people care about one another and are keen to give back to those in need.
This year we are a proud partner of Macmillan Cancer Support to do our bit to support the millions of people in the UK who are affected by cancer.
One of those people is Alastair Kidner (our Affiliate Account Director), who bravely battled Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Here, Alastair openly shares his story with everyone.
“It was late 2015 when I had the news that would change so many things. I was the healthiest I had ever felt and was coming off a fantastic year of work, travel and personal achievement, but unfortunately life doesn’t necessarily follow the same pattern. I was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma; a type of blood cancer for which the only symptom I had were painless lumps in my neck and was otherwise completely unaffected
I was very lucky that was diagnosed as not only treatable but curable, but it’s a long, slow road to that point where the chemotherapy treatment that I have to undertake regularly seems more painful than the issue itself.
During this time I have counted myself extremely lucky to have a fantastic support network, involving family, friends, and the team at Navigate Digital. They have all been incredibly understanding about what I can or can’t do as I did before my treatment began, but if it wasn’t for the added help of Macmillan Cancer Support I’m not sure I would be feeling as optimistic as I do now.
They have helped make me realise that my affliction, with the right attitude and approach, should be but a mere speed bump in the road and not a total derailment of all that I enjoyed. From the beginning I have been offered calls, meetings, pamphlets and fundraisers with Macmillan that has consistently shown that very little that I cared about has actually changed, they have merely evolved.
Macmillan is a fantastic institution and well worth any support that can be given to it.”
Our support for Alastair and Macmillan is unswerving and we will be doing everything we can over the course of this year to raise as much money as we can to give to this very worthy cause. You can track our progress (and contribute if you wish to) on our Just Giving page.
